Commercial trucks due to overloading have been the cause for damaged roads around Nigeria.
If you’ve ever wondered why roads constructed in Nigeria are damaged in a short period of time, then know that vehicle over loading is a major factor.
Not only do they destroy roads but also cause the trucks to breakdown and in many cases cause road traffic accidents. We can also add that human behavior and lack of law enforcement can also be considered as a contributing cause.
To curb this issue, the Federal Government commenced strict enforcement of calibration of installed load weighbridges across the country in 2021.
The enforcement of the axle load limits was supposed to help to prevent damage on major roads and highways, thereby prolonging the lifespan of these roads, and ultimately enabling the government to utilize funds that it would ordinarily spend to fix such roads, on other projects.
This has led to an increase in the durability of roads across the country and government funds going towards alleviating more pressing problems across the federation.
